One of the most common questions we get asked is: what do you do with all of the crusts after you produce your sandwiches?

Initially, we didn’t really have an answer to this question because we actually weren’t planning on doing anything with our crusts. We unfortunately viewed them as scraps. But after receiving that question numerous times before we even launched, we knew we had to come up with a solution for a potentially large problem.Β

According to ReFED, every year, American consumers, businesses, and farms spend $218 billion a year, or 1.3% GDP, growing, processing, transporting, and disposing food that is never eaten. That’s 52 million tons of food sent to landfills annually. Simply a statistic we knew we didn’t want to be a part of. Especially after we calculated that for every 3 sandwiches we make, we could be wasting enough materials to make 1 additional sandwich.

To combat this, we came up with a way to upcycle our bread crusts and butts into what we call, Reimagined Crusts.Β

FYI: Upcycling is the process of reusing potential waste materials or by-products and transforming them into new products.
